Annual CCD Mass 2018

26 Sep 2018

2018 CCD Mass 1

Each year hundreds of Special Religious Education teachers (SREs/catechists) gather for the Annual Diocesan Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) Mass and Awards Ceremony.

This year Good Shepherd Parish Plumpton hosted the Mass on Friday September 7.

It was a great celebration of this ministry when over 400 SREs from across the Diocese joined the 300 student SREs from Catholic schools to give thanks for the many blessings received, and to pray for our students in public schools and their families.

2018 CCD Mass 2

Bishop Vincent in his homily, offered words of encouragement and hope when he said, “This Eucharist is a thanksgiving to God for your active, faithful and generous discipleship. As Confraternity of Christian Doctrine volunteers, you bring the new wine of God’s love and mercy to the hearts of the young people.”

Bishop Vincent went on to say that, “At this time when the Church’s reputation, moral credibility and trust capital are effectively shattered in the wake of the sexual abuse crisis… we join forces with Pope Francis in repairing and restoring the Body of Christ. Now is the time for us to rebuild the Church as a beacon of hope for the world by living the radical vision of love, justice, compassion and solidarity.”

2018 CCD Mass 3

After the conclusion of Mass, the congregation remained seated while Bishop Vincent presented service awards and certificates.

HSC Business Studies 2025: Exam writers struggle for 'fresh' questions in 15-year-old syllabus

As students completed the 2025 Business Studies HSC exam, many left wondering: is the current curriculum still up to scratch? This year’s Business Studies exam, still based on the 2010 syllabus, posed a unique challenge for students, with exam writers seemingly running short on fresh material and beginning to draw on smaller, less-emphasised sections of the curriculum.

HAPPY WORLD TEACHER’S DAY! Let’s celebrate our amazing teachers who inspire, support, and empower our students every single day! Let’s also take a moment to acknowledge the school community as a whole! People who work in schools are at the forefront of the educational journey for each child. A student’s success depends on the collective efforts of the entire school community. Every member of staff—leadership, our wonderfully dedicated teachers, administrative personnel, counsellors, student services staff, and special education professionals—plays a vital role in shaping the learning environment and supporting each student’s well-being and development. Together, we foster a holistic and nurturing educational experience. At Gilroy, we strive to make every interaction—whether in the classroom, the office, or on the playground—marked by kindness, dedication, and genuine care. From a student’s first day to their final farewell, it is the combined efforts of every staff member that create the supportive, faith-filled community that defines Gilroy Catholic College.

NextGen at IMARC 2025 What an incredible experience! Our Year 9 students truly shone at this year’s event, impressing senior industry leaders with their curiosity, confidence, and insightful questions about careers and pathways in the mining, minerals, and resources sector. They explored cutting-edge technology, engaged in hands-on activities, and even teamed up with Australian Droid and Robot (ADR)’s senior engineer to prototype an innovative “snake catcher” - a creative highlight of the day! We were amazed by the technology shaping Australia’s mining industry and the vast range of careers it offers - there really is something for everyone in this dynamic field. We couldn’t be prouder of our students for making such a memorable impression! #STEMCareers #FutureInResources #MiningInnovation #STEMEducation #CareerPathways #StudentExcellence

PDSSSC FUTSAL Last week, four amazing teams competed in the PDSSSC FUTSAL competition. Intermediate Girls (Years 9 & 10) – Champions! The girls fought hard, keeping their cool under pressure and coming from behind to win the grand final in a thrilling penalty shootout. Intermediate Boys (Years 9 & 10) – After an incredible semi-final penalty shootout win, the boys made it to the grand final. Although they narrowly missed out in the decider, they played with great spirit and represented us proudly. Junior Teams (Years 7 & 8) – While they didn’t make it to the finals, both teams showed fantastic teamwork, determination, and resilience in every match. Well done to all our players for their sportsmanship and effort throughout the competition!

Police Defenders Leadership Program at Gilroy Catholic College Over Terms 3 and 4, a group of Year 9 students at Gilroy Catholic College are participating in the Police Defenders Leadership Program, an initiative proudly delivered by officers from Castle Hill Police Station. This engaging, fitness-based program places strong emphasis on accountability, positive attitudes, and constructive behaviours, while nurturing essential leadership skills. Through a range of practical activities and team-based challenges, students are encouraged to explore the value of influence, teamwork, and respectful communication. The program aims to foster a positive mindset around leadership and responsibility, empowering students to recognise how their actions can contribute to a safe, respectful, and collaborative school environment. By stepping into leadership roles and embracing challenges, students learn what it means to lead by example—both inside and outside the classroom. The Police Defenders Leadership Program will make a lasting impact, equipping our young leaders with the tools and confidence to support and inspire their peers, while building stronger connections between the school and local community services. #thehillspoliceareacommand #cspd

Year 11 Reflection Day - with input from Year 11 Student Ella. On Year 11 Reflection Day, we participated in a variety of activities designed to strengthen our sense of community and bring us closer together as a cohort. Through teamwork-based challenges, dancing, music, and shared laughter, we had the opportunity to connect in meaningful and memorable ways. The day also offered us a chance to pause and reflect on how much we have to be grateful for in our lives. As we prepare to enter Year 12, this time of reflection helped us appreciate not only our personal journeys but also the support systems around us. Overall, it was a powerful and uplifting experience — one that left a lasting impression on every Year 11 student. It was a day full of gratitude, connection, and joy that we will carry with us into our final year of school. Thanks to Year 11 student George for taking all the photos! #reflectiondayofjoy #gratitude #CSPD

Service and Compassion at the Vinnies Van A meaningful evening of service as the Vinnies Van took to the streets last Tuesday evening. Gilroy Catholic College Year 10 students Jasmine and Evita, accompanied by Mrs Andrews, Mrs O’Connor, and Mr Finucane, joined the Vinnies Van outreach at Merrylands. The Vinnies Van initiative provides more than just food and essentials — it offers warmth, dignity, and human connection to those experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Alongside meals, snacks, toiletries, and hot beverages, volunteers offer conversation, compassion, and referrals to further support services. Jasmine and Evita shared their reflections on the experience: "Our experience of the Vinnies Van was really meaningful and rewarding. We were so happy to have the opportunity to help people who are struggling by giving out food and drinks and having a friendly chat with them. It was really eye-opening seeing how such a small act of kindness could make someone’s day. But overall, it was a really great experience and reminded us how important it is to care for others in our community." Their words are a powerful reminder of the impact we can have when we reach out to others with kindness. #vinnies #vinniesvan #cspd

World triathlon championship 2025: Para-triathlon a break from study for Matt Engesser

It’s an unorthodox way to prepare for your first world triathlon tilt - staying tucked away in a room with only study material for company - but that’s where Matt Engesser will be most of the time this week. The schoolboy has been juggling studying, doing exams and training for the para triathlon race at the world triathlon championships in Wollongong on Saturday in one of the biggest weeks of his life.
