How the proposed developments would look from a western viewpoint
Gilroy Catholic College Castle Hill is one step closer to achieving a massive revamp after documents were recently lodged with The Hills Shire Council.
Development plans, valued at just over $20 million, have been submitted for the demolition of existing buildings and construction of new facilities at Gilroy Catholic College.
This school is bounded by Marie St and Excelsior Ave, Castle Hill.

The site is currently shared with St Gabriel’s School, a separate primary school for children with special needs.
According to the developer’s plans, this plot of land was purchased almost 100 years ago by the Catholic Church with the intention of establishing a school for deaf children.
It is primarily surrounded by low-density suburban homes, located about 1.5 km from Castle Towers.

The proposed development is limited to 5731 sqm on the western end of the college’s campus.
The proposal is for the demolition of two buildings and a shed to make way for a two-storey specialist building (’Block D’) and covered outdoor learning area (COLA).
According to the developer’s plans, Block D would be “a purpose-built research and creative (STEM) learning facility with specialist science, technology, home economics, visual arts and sports science facilities”.
Along with specialist STEM classrooms, Block D would also contain a canteen, common area and storage space.

Planning documents also propose the construction of a new COLA, the resurfacing of two existing sports courts and an internal courtyard with artificial turf.
According to the developer’s plans, this courtyard would “provide a private, high-quality recreation and learning space”.
Seven new trees and more than 800 shrubs would also be planted throughout the college’s grounds.
There would also be no changes to the school’s student and staff population.
Planning documents state “(this development would) provide for a more comfortable and sustainable site.”
“(The proposal) will ensure the use of the site as an educational establishment is enhanced and safeguarded for the long-term … (meeting) the education demands of Hills residents.”
Gilroy Catholic College was approached for comment.
This development application has been submitted to The Hills Shire Council. It will be determined by the Sydney Central City Planning Panel in the coming months.

Year 8 English – Dystopian Creations This term, our Year 8 English students have been exploring a range of literary genres, with a special focus on the dystopian genre. As part of their studies, they delved into The Maze Runner by James Dashner—a thrilling novel set in a mysterious and dangerous maze. To bring the novel’s setting to life, students were given a 30-minute challenge: to design and build their own 3D maze inspired by the world of the Glade. With creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving on full display, the results were nothing short of a-maze-ing!

Congratulations, William! We are incredibly proud to celebrate Gilroy Catholic College Year 9 student William, who was recently honoured at the 2025 Penrith Valley Sports Foundation Awards. William was named Joint Junior Sports Star of the Year, a prestigious recognition of his outstanding success in the pool. Earlier this year, he claimed the national title in the 200m butterfly at the Australian National Age Championships, solidifying his status as one of the country's top young swimmers. Year 12 Awards Ceremony – Class of 2025 On Wednesday, we celebrated a significant milestone for our Year 12 students as the 2025 Awards Ceremony marked the culmination of their school journey. This event recognised a wide range of academic, sporting, creative, and personal achievements, as well as the remarkable community spirit and dedication to learning shown by this cohort. We gathered to honour not only what they have accomplished, but who they have become. In her address, Ms Merryweather offered a powerful message of encouragement and reflection. She reminded students: “The language of the mind that you have learnt will bring you to be our next doctors, journalists, lawyers, builders, plumbers, artists and, hopefully, teachers. It is the language of the mind that will bring us a new generation of inventors, researchers and entrepreneurs so that our world can be a better place.” “You will take the language of the heart with you everywhere you go. The language of the heart is the opportunity for reflection on your words and deeds so that you can be the best version of yourselves each day.” We are incredibly proud of the dedication, resilience, and perseverance shown by the Class of 2025. As they approach their HSC examinations, we encourage them to maintain their focus and continue striving to achieve their personal best. Yesterday morning, our Year 12 students, along with their parents and carers, came together for a special morning tea before the formal Graduation Ceremony. It was a wonderful chance to connect, share stories, and enjoy some amazing food before the formal ceremony began.! Yesterday, Gilroy Catholic College said a final farewell to our 2025 Year 12 Students at a whole school assembly. During her address, Ms Merryweather shared a quote from TS Eliot “the end is where we start from”. She reflected that with every ending comes a new beginning and that this week marks the ending of their education at Gilroy and the start of the next chapter of their lives. Ms Merryweather also shared that “we are proud and privileged to have spent the last six years with you.” and “ you have worked to make the College community a better place. You have achieved the goal of every leader - to leave a community a little bit better than before. Your actions have echoed Mary Mackillop: We must teach more by example than by words. Mrs Perry and Mr Gribble, both in their capacity as Leaders of Learning also praised the Year 12 students for their compassion and kindness and their hard work.
