How the proposed developments would look from a western viewpoint
Gilroy Catholic College Castle Hill is one step closer to achieving a massive revamp after documents were recently lodged with The Hills Shire Council.
Development plans, valued at just over $20 million, have been submitted for the demolition of existing buildings and construction of new facilities at Gilroy Catholic College.
This school is bounded by Marie St and Excelsior Ave, Castle Hill.

The site is currently shared with St Gabriel’s School, a separate primary school for children with special needs.
According to the developer’s plans, this plot of land was purchased almost 100 years ago by the Catholic Church with the intention of establishing a school for deaf children.
It is primarily surrounded by low-density suburban homes, located about 1.5 km from Castle Towers.

The proposed development is limited to 5731 sqm on the western end of the college’s campus.
The proposal is for the demolition of two buildings and a shed to make way for a two-storey specialist building (’Block D’) and covered outdoor learning area (COLA).
According to the developer’s plans, Block D would be “a purpose-built research and creative (STEM) learning facility with specialist science, technology, home economics, visual arts and sports science facilities”.
Along with specialist STEM classrooms, Block D would also contain a canteen, common area and storage space.

Planning documents also propose the construction of a new COLA, the resurfacing of two existing sports courts and an internal courtyard with artificial turf.
According to the developer’s plans, this courtyard would “provide a private, high-quality recreation and learning space”.
Seven new trees and more than 800 shrubs would also be planted throughout the college’s grounds.
There would also be no changes to the school’s student and staff population.
Planning documents state “(this development would) provide for a more comfortable and sustainable site.”
“(The proposal) will ensure the use of the site as an educational establishment is enhanced and safeguarded for the long-term … (meeting) the education demands of Hills residents.”
Gilroy Catholic College was approached for comment.
This development application has been submitted to The Hills Shire Council. It will be determined by the Sydney Central City Planning Panel in the coming months.

Each year, our student leaders coordinate the Christmas Hamper Appeal in partnership with the St Bernadette’s Parish Family Groups and St Vincent de Paul (Vinnies), supporting families who may be struggling during the Christmas season. Last week, students were invited to donate essential food items, and—as always—the Gilroy Catholic Community responded generously. Students who contributed were treated to a photo with Santa and his helpers, adding some festive fun to the giving spirit. On Monday morning, our leaders packed and delivered the hampers to Catholic Care Bidwill, with additional donated items sent to the Ignite Food Store in Emerton. Our Year 11, 2026 Leaders—Niamh, Madeleine, Dominic and John—reflected on the experience: “This morning we had the opportunity to deliver Christmas hampers to those outside our community, helping lift the Christmas spirit for individuals and families in need. It was rewarding but also eye-opening to see how a small act can go such a long way. As we go about our everyday lives, we often take for granted the opportunities and things we have. This experience allowed us to step outside our own bubble and place ourselves in the shoes of those less fortunate. We found the day very enjoyable, and we highly recommend that other students take part in the future.”

Our Year 9 Police Defender Leadership Program students had an inspiring day at the Parramatta Eels Centre of Excellence, where they presented their Culture Change Projects. Students were given a guided tour of the facilities and learned about the many roles and opportunities within the Parramatta Eels organisation. They also met with George and Aunty Chris, who shared valuable insights into player wellbeing and the importance of having two “Plan A’s.” A Q&A session followed, giving students the chance to further explore ideas about leadership, resilience, and personal growth. It was an engaging and enlightening experience for all involved. After lunch, our students presented their project proposals to members of Hills Council and listened to the thoughtful presentations from the students of Pennant Hills High School. Our Gilroy students represented the school with pride and were outstanding ambassadors. Their projects were sophisticated, deeply considered, and showcased a genuine commitment to building a connected school community grounded in Gilroy spirit. What truly set them apart was their passion not only to initiate meaningful change within the school, but also to make a positive impact on the wider community. We look forward to sharing more as these projects come to life!

Our Year 10 Student Special Religious Educators (SREs) are preparing to attend the Christmas Celebration at Excelsior Public School. Throughout the year, they have been assisting in teaching Religious Education to the Catholic students enrolled at the State Primary School, and this event marks a meaningful culmination of their service and involvement. Grand Final Success for Our Girls Touch Teams! What an incredible day for our Junior and Inter Girls Touch Football teams when they competed in the finals of the PDSSSC Touch Competition! Junior Girls Our juniors dominated the field with a 4–1 semi-final win over Caroline Chisholm, followed by a fantastic 3–1 victory against Catherine McAuley in the grand final! An outstanding effort from every player. Inter Girls The Inter Girls fought through two tough matches—drawing 2–2 with St Columba’s to progress on points—before sealing the grand final with a confident 2–0 win over Emmaus! Today the College welcomed Delta Therapy Dogs to support students in managing their personal wellbeing. Research shows that the human–animal bond can positively influence social, emotional, physical, and physiological health—improving overall quality of life and wellbeing. Interacting with therapy dogs may help reduce stress and anxiety, elevate mood, encourage social connection, and provide a calming break from daily pressures. Students were thrilled to meet Remy, Remi, Delilah, and Monty—all absolutely adorable and completely professional! It was clear that the visit had a positive impact.
