For more than 40 years, Gilroy Catholic College has proudly partnered with the St Vincent de Paul Society to support those in need. Over the past five years, this commitment has deepened through our involvement in the Vinnies Van program. The Vinnies Van is a vital outreach service across Western Sydney, operating seven nights a week (excluding New Year’s Eve). It provides food, care, and meaningful connection to people experiencing homelessness. Each Thursday at recess, students in the Mary MacKillop Service Awards Program prepare fresh sandwiches, which are delivered to Vinnies for distribution that evening. Our school community also contributes snack packs, with each Homeroom supporting the initiative once a year to help maintain a steady supply. Snack packs are collected every Thursday morning by student leaders and delivered alongside the sandwiches. In addition, once a month, students and staff volunteer on a Tuesday evening, serving food, hot drinks, and offering a friendly conversation from the Vinnies Van. We are grateful for the opportunity to support the most vulnerable members of our community. Thank you to our students, staff, and families for your ongoing generosity and commitment.

Gilroy Catholic College students recently competed at the Western Sydney Oztag competition with 6 strong teams, winning the majority of their matches—an outstanding effort all around! A huge congratulations to our Junior Girls (Years 7 & 8) who dominated their division and conceded just one try for the entire day—an incredible achievement! Well done also to our Intermediate Girls (Years 9 & 10), who put in a fantastic performance and narrowly missed out in a thrilling grand final. Both teams have now qualified for the Champions of Champions State Finals, which is a massive accomplishment. We’re so proud and can’t wait to see you represent Gilroy at the next level!

Staff returned to Gilroy Catholic College yesterday, beginning the new school term with a strong sense of purpose and energy. We were delighted to welcome Father Richard Leonard, who spoke to us about teaching our students in the image of Jesus, grounded in faith, hope, and love.
