Helping Your Child Learn at Home

Explore practical strategies every parent can use!

How can you help your child learn at home without stress, conflict, or overwhelm?

Join CSPD’s Learning Outcomes team for a practical parent session focused on simple, realistic ways families can support learning at home, from primary through to secondary school.

You’ll hear practical ideas around:

  • study and homework routines
  • helping children retain information
  • reading and learning habits
  • understanding some of the teaching approaches used in today’s CSPD classrooms

We’ll also briefly unpack the “why” behind some of the changes happening in schools and explain how parents and schools can work together to support student success.

Whether your child is in primary or secondary school, this session will provide practical takeaways you can start using at home straight away.

 When  Tuesday, 9 June
 Time  7:00pm - 8:30pm (Doors open at 6:30pm)
Location  Penola Catholic College, Penrith, 75 Mackellar St, Emu Plains
Refreshments  Light refreshments will be provided.

This FREE event is open to all Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese (CSPD) parents and carers and is a chance to connect with other parents and learn more about the FPC.

This morning, we had the pleasure of celebrating our Gilroy mothers and mother figures at our Mother’s Day Breakfast. It was wonderful to see so many families attend, with a strong sense of community and connection shared throughout the morning. In her address, Ms Merryweather reflected on how our mums nurture us and prepare us to face the world from the moment we are born and beyond, and how they are so often the ones we turn to when we need comfort, guidance and protection. She spoke lovingly about her relationship with her mother and that even now, her mum would move heaven and earth to protect her if she needed it. Whether our mothers are with us in person or in spirit, their love continues to shape and enrich our lives. We hope everyone who joined us enjoyed connecting with fellow members of the Gilroy community and sharing the delicious breakfast together. Thank you to all those whose dedication and hard work helped make this event such a memorable and special morning for our mothers, staff and students. Wishing all our mums and mother figures and wonderfully blessed and happy Mothers’ Day.

The Gilroy Catholic College Chess Competition is off to a great start! This year’s tournament follows a Swiss format, with students competing in weekly matches from Week 2 through to Week 9. At the end of this stage, the top four players in both Junior and Senior divisions, with the highest points, will advance to the Semi Finals in Week 10. The Semi Finals will be played as best-of-three matches, with the winners moving on to the Grand Final in Week 11—also a best-of-three showdown—to determine our Junior and Senior Division champions and trophy winners. Best of luck to all our players—we’re excited to see some brilliant strategy and sportsmanship on display!

Students worked incredibly hard throughout Term 1 to earn house points, and we’re pleased to announce that Tchingal Red House came out on top with an impressive 1841 points! Points were earned through merits, avoiding detentions, participation in community events led by student leaders, and representing the school in sports and carnivals. To celebrate their achievement, Tchingal students in Years 7–10 enjoyed delicious donuts during their pastoral lesson last week, while our student leaders made their way around at recess delivering donuts to Years 11 and 12. Congratulations, Tchingal! Keep up the amazing effort and school spirit!
